Projector captions and OBS broadcast

Show captions on the venue screen with the projector URL, or overlay them in OBS / vMix with the broadcast URL.

Each event can have several caption screens. Each one has its own URLs, languages and look. For example, the main screen shows Chinese and English, and a side LED shows English only.

Each caption screen has two URLs

  • Projector URL: open it in a browser on the computer connected to the projector.
  • Broadcast URL (OBS / vMix): transparent background and no interface, for streaming software.

Both URLs are on the “Projector captions” card of the event Overview and in the “Projector captions” tab. The speaker page also shows them in its “Projection” tab.

Add or edit a caption screen

  1. In the event’s “Projector captions” tab, click “New caption screen”.
  2. Adjust the settings below and save.
  3. The preview on the right is indicative. Check the exact look by opening the projector URL on the projector computer.

What you can set:

  • First and second language, stacked or side by side, and whether to show the speaker source text and the event name.
  • Font size, font, color, outline and shadow.
  • Caption box background, height (lines) and position (bottom, top or custom).
  • Single-line ticker, for a box that is one line high.
  • Fade out after a number of seconds without new captions, so the last line does not stay on screen during breaks.

Show captions on the projector computer

When you open the projector URL, it asks “How do you want to show the captions?”:

  • Full screen: this computer is connected to the projector or a second screen.
  • Picture-in-picture: a small always-on-top window over your slides.
  • Capture slides and compose: pick your presentation window, compose the captions onto it, and send it to the projector through an output window.
  • Just show captions here.

Picture-in-picture and capture need desktop Chrome or Edge. Press H to hide or show captions.

Use with OBS or vMix

  1. Click “Copy broadcast URL”.
  2. In your streaming software, add a browser source and paste the URL.
  3. Set the size to 1920×1080 (other sizes scale proportionally).
  4. Click “Send test captions”. Screens showing this URL display sample captions for 30 seconds, so you can check the position.

The broadcast URL keeps working when the event code or listener password changes.

Other actions

  • Pause display: this caption screen goes blank until you click “Resume display”.
  • Regenerate URLs: the old projector and broadcast URLs stop at once. Do this only if a URL leaked.
